Mechanism of Hydrogen Storage and Structural Transformation in Bimetallic Pd–Pt Nanoparticles

The hydrogen storage capacity of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) decreases as the particles become smaller; however, this reduced is ameliorated by addition Pt. In present work, mechanism and structural transformations core (Pd)–shell (Pt) (CS) solid-solution (SS) NPs during absorption desorption (PHAD) processes are investigated. situ X-ray spectroscopy measurements were performed to study evolution electronic local structures around Pt PHAD. Under ambient conditions, have distinct structures. atomic pairs more strained in CS than SS NPs. A similar behavior has been seen after K-edge extended fine structure data indicate that a substantial fraction signal derives from Pd–Pd pairs, indicating clusters remain even PHAD causes rearrangement interfacial structure, which becomes homogeneously distributed. higher coverage active bimetallic sites results observed phase.
